Club History

In 1960 a Social Club was founded to support local sporting activites in Gladesville, and in 1961 entered the Gladesville-Hornsby Football Association competitions. In 1964 teams were formed for entry into the Sydney Suburban Amateur Division, a competition for senior players which drew clubs from across the metropolitan area.

The 1980’s began with a change of name to match a gradual change in the nature of the club, and so Gladesville Ravens Sports Club was announced.

In 1981 football for women and girls was announced, and Ravens was a foundation club in the new Gladesville-Hornsby Women’s Soccer Association (now North West Sydney Women’s Football). It was an instant success, and 7 years later in 1988, Ravens sought entry into the NSW State League Women’s Competitions, where we remain to this today.

The early history of the Gladesville Ravens Sports Club was written by Lee Owens (Our Club | Gladesville Ravens).

Moving forward to 2011, Ravens, under the guidance of former Socceroo legend Paul Wade, won promotion from the NSW Womens Super League into the top tier, The NSW Womens Premier League. The stay was short lived and they were relegated back down in 2012. In 2016, Ravens again won the Club Championship, this time gaining promotion to the National Premier League 2. In 2019 Ravens won The NSW National Premier League 2 Championship Grand Final, but were unable to gain promotion.

2021 saw a new era of sophistication adopted by the club, seeing a  consequential increase in full time staff, sponsorship, publicity, coaches, managers and volunteers. The Ravens NPL Committee was formed and the club moved into the era of professionalism.

In 2022, the Ravens Women celebrated an historic treble, winning the NSW NPL 2 Premiership (League Title), Championship Grand Final, and Club Championship, winning promotion to the NSW National Premier League 2023 competition.

In 2023, Ravens established themselves in the top tier of womens football in the state, the NSW Womens National Premier League.
